The 18th Auction by Psatharis Auction House Ltd,
which was held on 27 May 2015 at the HILTON HOTEL,
Nicosia, was highly successful. Of the 140 works
auctioned, 94 were sold, or 67%, bringing the
revenue (auction price, commission and VAT) to
€344.241 by value 114%.
The top price paid was for “In the Shadow of the
Church of Panayia of Asinou”, by George Pol
Georgiou, that doubled its starting price of
€40.000, reaching €98.925 after 13 bids, a record
for a work by a Cypriot artist at auction.
In second place was “Eating Rice at the Harvest”, by
Michael Chr. Kashalos, which, from a starting price
of €16.000, achieved a selling price of €30.284
after 8 bids, marking a new record for a work of the
same artist at auction.
Third place went to a work by Christoforos Savva,
reaching the selling price of €20.034.
Of the 94 works sold, 40 attracted one bid, whereas
54 attracted more than 2 bids.
“Mitsero”, by Joseph Vermeiren went for €1885, from
its starting price of €600 after 14 bids and “Island
Scene”, by Marios Loizides, from €300, reached the
price of €942 also after 14 bids. Both the works by
George Erotocritou “Mermaids” and “Aheritou”, by
Fotos Hadjisotiriou, attracted 13 bids, with the
first reaching €2.828 from a €1.000 starting price and
the second €5.892 from €2.000.
The art-loving public also showed a great interest
in the works of: Victoras Ioannides, Τelemachos
Kanthos, Xanthos Hadjisotiriou, Stelios Votsis and
Stass Paraskos.
“Junction – Alonas”, by Telemachos Kanthos, from
€5.500 reached €7.660 “The Bread-seller of Omodos”, by
Victoras Ioannides, from a starting price of €3.500
reached the selling price of €4.714. “Untitled”, by
Stelios Votsis, oil on canvas – 1987 after 10 bids
from €1.800 reached the selling price of €4.242. Six
drawings by Stass Paraskos entitled “With reference
to Adonis” and “Death of a Journalist” after 8 bids
the first set from €1.400 and the second from €3.000
reached €2.592 and €5892 respectively.
“Fairy” – 1988, by Andreas Charalambides, from the
starting price of €5.000 reached the selling price of
€7.071. “EPIC – CYPRUS”, by George Skotinos from the
starting price of €2.200 reached €3.535.
“Untitled”, by Christos Christou, from €3.500 reached
€4.714. “Mother with Child”, by Charilaos Dikeos,
from 500 reached €1.296 after 11 bids.
