The
13th Auction by Psatharis Auction House Ltd, which
was held on 22/11/2012 at the HILTON Hotel - Nicosia
was very successful, with revenue (auction price,
commission plus VAT on the commission) amounting to
€230.350. Out
of the 115 works of art in the auction catalogue, 82
were sold, or 71% and 114% (by value) since the
House’s revenues exceeded the total of the lowest
valuation prices of all the works, which amounted to
€201.000. Out
of the 74 works of art of Cypriot artists, 60 were
sold, 80%, and of the Greek artists, out of 41, 22
were sold, or 53%
In
top place, as in the previous auction, was the work
by Adamantios Diamantis “Tragedy”, which,
from a starting price of €18.000, after seven bids,
realised €32.914. This was followed by the work of
Christoforos Savva “Girl in Pink” which
realised €21.159. In third place was the work by
Michael Chr. Kashialos, “Wedding Preparation”
which realised €19.983. In fourth place was the work
by Andreas Ladommatou “Kiosks in a Narrow
Street With Sky Blue Shutters”, which trebled its
starting price of €5.000 to €17.632.
Out
of the 82 works of art that were sold, 42 attracted
bids. “Villagers on the Beach”, a work by
Charilaos Dikeos, after a record 20 bids from
its starting price of €500, realised €2.351. In
second place was the work by A. Ladommatos
“From Windows Series”, which, after 17 bids, almost
quadrupled its starting price of €1.000, realising
€3.879. “Kiosks in a Narrow Street With Sky Blue
Shutters”, another work by the same artist, took the
third place, which after 15 bids from €5.000
realised €17.632. “Varoshia” by L. Economou,
after nine bids doubled its starting price and
realised €4.702. Catalogue numbers 56 & 75,
“Untitled” by St. Votsis and N. Kouroushis,
after eight bids, doubled their starting price from
€2.000 to €4.231 for the first and from €900 to
€1.880 for the second. “Glykiotissa” by A.
Tarsouli, “Lazari and Two Stones in Brown Font”
by A. Ladommatos and “Accident” (c. 1960) by
M. Chr. Kashialos, with seven bids each,
realised €1.057, €8.816 and €9.404 respectively.
Also “Girl With the Black Flute” by A.
Charalambides realised €4.702 after seven bids.
“Untitled”, number 54, by St. Votsis and
“Horses” by Chr. Christou after six bids
realised €1.880 and €5.877 respectively. An interest
was also shown in the works “Starting” and “Finikaria”,
by F. Hadjisotiriou, which, after four bids
for the first and six for the second, realised
€3.056 and €3.291 respectively.
There was also an interest in the works of Cypriot
and Greek artists such as Chr. Kara, M. Manousaki,
G. Mavroides, G. Amoryiannou, C. Yiannikouri, Stass
Paraskou, A. Efstathiou, A. Makariou, A. Keramida,
D. Kokkinides, M. Manousakis a.o.
An
increased interest was shown in the watercolours in
the catalogue, with “Varoshia” by Telemachos
Kanthos in first place, which realised €3.526,
and by Stephanos Sgourou, C. Economou, Chr.
Dikaios, A. Asproftas, Constantinos Sofianopoulou
a.o.
