Sofia Laskaridou received a comprehensive
education both within her family environment as
well as during her studies in Munich and Paris.
Her extensive oeuvre reflects a variety of
influences from German Expressionism to the Post-Impressionist
currents of France. In `Kaisariani Monastery`,
her Munich training is evident in her
spontaneous, impasto brushwork in a nearly
monochromatic palette of browns and ochres. On
the other hand, her rendering of the landscape
with the tree trunks cut off in the foreground
recalls the compositional ideas of the Nabis in
Paris.
