5th Auction
29 April
2009, Cypriot and Greek Sale
Hilton Hotel, Nicosia
The
art-loving population’s interest continued to be lively
in the fifth auction by the “Psatharis Auction House,”
held at the Hilton Hotel in Nicosia on 29 April, 2009.
Out of the
88 works that were auctioned, 52 were sold, 59% with a
total revenue of €173.101. As compared to the previous
auction held in October that included 108 works with a
56% sale percentage and a revenue of €278.761. Taking
into account the larger number of works in the previous
auction and the sale of a work by G. Pol Georghiou for
€70.350, the fifth auction of the House can be
considered a success.
Again in this auction, George Pol
Georghiou was in first place, with his work “Nude”
reaching €31.657. There was particular interest in
Cypriot and Greek artists such as Demetris Yerou’s “The
Apple” reaching €5.397 from the starting price of
€3.000,
Yiannis Gaites “Spectators of Peace” reaching
€6.097 from the starting price of €4.000, Kaity
Stephanidou’s “Untitled” from €1.000 reaching €2.345,
Angelos Yiallina’s “Andianou Gate” from €3.000 to
€5.159.
This all goes to confirm the correct
policy of the “Psatharis Auction House” in not only
choosing quality works but in setting a low starting
price.
A lot of interest was also shown in
Xanthos Hadjisoteriou’s works, all three having been
sold at the auction at quite good prices, such as “Madonna
With Carnation” reaching €6.448, “The Red Pithari”
at €5.159, “The 4 Virgins” €5.862. There was also
interest in John Corbidge’s works “Sailing Off From
Ancient Amathounda,” “Workshops in Ancient
Amathounda” reaching €5.276 including the artwork “Aphrodite”
reaching €5.862.
The works of the following were also
sold: Andreas Ladomatos “Old Nicosia” €5.862,
George Skotinos “The Horses” €5.276, Nicos
Kouroushis “Untitled” €4.690,
Victoras Ioannides “Female
Figure” €4.455, George Skotinos “Horses”
