 Results of the Third Auction of “Psatharis Auctions House” 7th May 2008

The third auction of “Psatharis Auction House” that took place in Hilton Hotel on 7 May 2008, was also marked with great success due to the remarkable works that were auctioned and the increasing interest that had been expressed by the artistic public of Cyprus.

Sixty eight out of 116 pieces offered were sold, a percentage of 59%. The total income of the auction amounted to the sum of €291.246.00 (total sum for the pieces sold, plus commission of the auctioneer, plus VAT on the commission) scoring an increase of 22% compared to the second auction (€238.442.00) and 59% compared to the first (€183.545.00).

The works of the two friends and fellow-students in the Higher School of Fine Arts, Victor Ioannidis and Spyros Vassiliou, took the first and second place respectively. The “Gamblers” and the “End of Season”.  The first work had a starting bidding price of €12.500.00 and was awarded for €22.227.00, marking a record for a work of the artist sold, and the second had a starting bidding price for €18.500.00 and was awarded for €21.691.00. Then comes the work of Telemachos Kanthos “Almond Trees of May in Alona” was sold for €19.346,00 the work of Giorgos Gounaropoulos “Landscape” for €14.070,00 the work of Lefteris Economou “Lakatamia” for €11.725,00, Vasilis Sperant “Pair” for €8.855.00.

A lot of interest was shown by the public for the work of Xanthos Hadjisotiriou.  From the four pieces available, three were sold. “Sunday” exceeded the estimated value of €7.000.00 and was sold for €9.996.00. The work of Sarantis Karavouzis “Interior with Nude”, estimated value  €8000 was sold for €12.897.

A lot of interest was also shown for the work of Giorgos Kotsonis “The Death of Patroklos” which was sold for €9.614,00, estimated value of €6.800,00  A work of Stass Paraschos almost doubled the estimated value of €3.400.00 and was sold for the amount of €6.566.00. Kate Stefanides work exceeded by far the estimated value of €2.500.00 reaching the amount of €3.869.00. The work of Andreas Chrysochos “Light-blue Virgin Mary”, estimated value €900.00, was sold for €2.227.00.

“Psatharis Auction House” would like to thank all Cypriot and Greek artists, who, with their selected works gave special quality and dynamics in the auction, as well as the owners of the pieces of art who trusted us.

The lots below were sold at the prices stated. Omitted lot numbers indicate items that were withdrawn, passed, or unsold as of the publication of this list.
