The 11th auction by Psatharis Auction House
Ltd, which was held on 7/6/2012 at the HILTON HOTEL -
NICOSIA, was very successful, with revenue (auction
price, auctioneers commission and VAT on the
commission) amounting to 178.323,00.
Out of
the 80 works of art in the auction catalogue, 52 were
sold, 65% and 77% by value.
Out of
the 58 works of art by Cypriot artists, 36 were sold,
62% and, of the Greek artists, out of 22, 16 were sold,
73%.
In first
place was the work by Adamantios Diamantis (1900 -
1994), Fountain in Stroumbi, 1949, which,
from the starting price of 35.000, realised 58.775, a
record price for a work of art by the artist at auction.
This was
followed by the work by Michael Chr. Kashialos
(1885 - 1974), Watering the animals, From
15.000 it sold at 23.510, another new record for the
selling price of a work of art at auction.
In third
place was the work by Christoforos Savva (1924 -
1968), Geometric composition, which, from the
starting price of 10.000, realised 15.281.
The art
loving public showed a great interest in the 24 works of
art that were sold and as a result there were many bids
for works such as that of John Corbidge (1935 2003) Old
Man, which, after 13 bids, almost trebled its
starting price of 1.000, realising 2.821. The
Adamantios Diamantis work Fountain at
Stroumbi followed, with 11 bids, from a starting
price of 35.000, it realised 58.775. In third place
was Nude, by Lefteris Economou (1930 -
2007), which, with 9 bids, doubled the starting price of
800 to 1.645.
Kites,
a work by Stelios Votsis and The Kiss, a
work by Lefteris Economou, the first with 8 bids and the
second with 7 bids, doubled their starting prices,
achieving 881 and 822 respectively; the Nitsa
Hadigeorgiou work Untitled, with 6 bids,
realised a selling price of 1528 from its starting
price of 900.
There was also increased interest in the water colours
in the catalogue, with first place being taken by the
1941 work by Adamantios Diamantis, At the
house of Constanti in Aska, selling for 4.702, Agios
Epiktitos, by Telemachos Kanthos (1970)
realising 3.526, Cairo, by Spyridonas
Skarveli, selling for 1.410 and Kato Platres,
1968, by Charilaos Dikaios, selling at 646;
watercolours by Constantinos Sofianopoulos Fishing
Boats 1966, and of Andreas Asproftas were
also sold. An interest was also shown in the catalogue
etchings of Telemachos Kanthos and Chambis
Tsangaris.
A
great interest was also shown in the works of art of
Greek and Cypriot artists such as those of Sofia
Laskarides, Grooming, sold for 5.877,
